Traditional Business Continuity (BC)\, Disaster Recovery (DR)\, and Emergency Management (EM) programs often operate in silos\, creating dangerous gaps during actual crises. This presentation describes how to unify these disciplines into a cohesive organizational resilience program using two authoritative standards: the Drii Professional Practices (PP) and NFPA 1660: Standard on Emergency\, Continuity\, and Crisis Management. \nAttendees will learn how DRII’s lifecycle – Risk Assessment\, Business Impact Analysis\, Strategy Development\, Plan Development\, Training & Awareness\, and Exercise Programs – maps directly to NFPA 1660’s Emergency Management and Continuity requirements. By aligning these frameworks\, organizations can build resilience capabilities that protect people\, sustain operations\, and restore critical technology under real-world conditions. This session provides actionable guidance on integrating emergency response (ICS/NIMS)\, business continuity\, IT disaster recovery\, and crisis communications into a single\, governance-driven approach. Practical examples\, maturity indicators\, and lessons learned from real incidents will illustrate how organizations can strengthen preparedness\, response\, and recovery activities across IT\, physical operations\, and leadership teams. \nKey Takeaways: \n\nUnderstand the complementary roles of DRII Professional Practices and NFPA 1660 and how to use them together – these are key BC/DR/EM Frameworks used by the authors.\nLearn how to integrate BC\, DR\, and EM functions to eliminate silos and strengthen response coordination.\nSee how the DRII Professional Practices lifecycle maps to NFPA 1660’s Emergency\, Continuity\, and Crisis Management standards.\nGain actionable strategies to improve governance\, cross-functional planning\, crisis leadership\, and resource coordination.\nLearn about ISACA’s IT Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery Audit Program\, produced in 2021\, and how to download it.\n\n\n  \nPresenters \n\n \n\n\nHarvey Nusz\nCIPM\, CRISC\, CISA\, CGEIT \nHarvey Nusz is a seasoned cybersecurity\, privacy\, governance\, and BC/DR advisor experience in Business Continuity\, IT Disaster Recovery\, and organizational resilience. He has worked as a DR Manager at a large oil and gas company\, and has also audited BC/DR functions at various companies. He has strong governance credentials and has passed the CBCP exam\, and is currently pursuing full certification based on his professional experience. \nHarvey is a past President of both the ISACA Greater Houston and Milwaukee Chapters\, as well as the ISSA South Texas Chapter. He serves on the Program Committee for the ISACA GWDC Chapter\, founded and leads the Cybersecurity SIG for the Association of Continuity Professionals (ACP)\, and was recognized as ACP’s Spotlight Member for November 2025. \n \n\n\n \n\n\nStephen Kastensmidt\nCEM\, CGEMC \nStephen G. Kastensmidt is a veteran Crisis and Emergency Manager with extensive experience in designing and leading emergency exercises. Over his career\, he has managed and developed dozens of preparedness exercises\, particularly within the maritime and energy sectors. \nStephen’s maritime expertise is demonstrated through his collaborative work with the Maritime Security Council\, the Energy Security Council\, as well as his service as a U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Emergency Management Coordinator. Notably\, he served as Director of Offshore Operations during the Deepwater Horizon incident\, providing critical leadership in a significant maritime emergency. \nAs a lead planner\, Stephen contributed to the five-year MEXUS series\, culminating in a full-scale exercise involving more than 400 participants and over 1\,200 exercise injects. He has been a key member of planning teams for multiple large-scale maritime terrorism exercises\, demonstrating expertise in both strategic planning and operational response. \n \n\n  \n\n\n\n  \nQuestions about this Event \n\n\nIf you have any registration questions about this event\, please contact us by completing the Registration Contact Form linked below. \nRegistration Questions \n  \n\n\n\n\nIf you have CPE questions after the event has concluded\, please contact us by completing the CPE contact form linked below. \nCPE Questions \n  \n\n\n  \n\n\n\nCPE Information \nEarn up to 1 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit in the area of Information Technology.
